Catching Up

I’ve been in this transfer for about 2 or 3 weeks and it's been such a blessing to see all the blessings that came out of sticking through the season of relying of Christ and my Spanish (which is the Spanish of a 7-year-old).

I'm realizing this more now just writing this than I had this whole past week, but every person that has come to church these past two incredible weeks were found when I was with my two English speaking companions. The first two or three days with my new Spanish speaking companion were some of the hardest because I looked at the area and could only see how little I had done, or how much more I should've done. But Christ really and truly had consecrated our efforts in both the Spanish and the English area. An English speaker we had found during that period even got baptized last week.

The best part of the past week was having Sunday School all in Spanish with six friends and one of the best members. Normally we would just translate Sunday School from English, but we got permission to do a Spanish Sunday School. The member we had invited bore the most powerful testimony of the Book of Mormon and Christ's gospel. He told his conversion story and repeated over and over how loved each of them was, going so far as to remember each name and promise to pray for each individually as well as offering his phone number if they had questions. We could see our investigators open up.

Carlos and his son Ounner are incredible. They have come to church consistently for three weeks and have enjoyed it so much, even despite the language barrier. (They are from Guatemala and their native language is Qʼeqchiʼ.)

We have quite a few friends who all live in the same house together, but they all are so interested in the gospel and at least 4 of them love coming to church. One of them is the sweetest 16-year-old who is also Guatemalan and has probably only been speaking Spanish for a couple of months and loves church and Christ. And he's only here in America to help support his family.

Another investigator has been fun to work with because he and a service missionary in our ward are the best of friends. They’re both 18 and thankfully our friend speaks really good english so there hasn't been a big language barrier. We had a great lesson with them both even after the service missionary had gotten a flat tire. And they both came to the ward's chili cook off together.

Overall it's been a pretty darn good week. And honestly I'm just coming to love these people more and more.
